Welcome to the 2006 Newsletter and the 60th Anniversary year of Haslemere Hockey Club. The summer has flown by and our thoughts need to return to hockey, so in this letter please find some dates for the diary and some other useful information!

Fitness & Training Sessions

Fitness sessions have started, they are on a Monday evening at 8pm and will continue up until the start of the league season. The first hour is purely fitness and then there will be some skills work, so as well as running stuff please take up your hockey bits as well. The sessions are open to any club members and will be led by Grant Roberts.

Training sessions will be on a Wednesday evening at 8pm for both Men and Ladies. They are starting on the 30th August for the Men’s 1st and 2nd squads and the Ladies’ section and, on the 13th September, for the rest of the Men’s section (see below)continuing until the end of the season unless otherwise notified!!!

Coaching : Once again George Harris will coach the Men’s 1st and 2nd squads and Duncan Haddrell will take the Ladies squad. We are also very pleased to announce that Dhiren Patel (DP) has agreed to coach a ‘development squad’, this will consist of 16-25 year old men (with a few exceptions) not currently in the 1sts or 2nds.

DP will undertake much of his coaching indoors at the Edge, focusing on the development of skills and speed of movement that are so vital in the outdoor game. His sessions will also provide an extremely important stepping stone for young players who aspire to playing for the Men’s 1st XI.

In the longer term, this squad will also form the basis for a HHC indoor team, a part of the game that England Hockey is now supporting very strongly again after a hiatus of some fifteen years.
As some of you know, DP is an ex-international indoor player and an outdoor player of significant repute at national league level. Together with George (international) and Duncan (national league), DP completes an adult coaching line up that bears comparison with any in the country.

At the junior level, we are also delighted to announce that Daniel Clarke will be continuing in his role as Junior Section Head Coach, building upon significant success last year at all levels. Dan will work with team of more than ten qualified coaches and assistant coaches on Sunday mornings as HHC continues to put significant resources behind its development programme.

Club Day

The Senior Club Day will be held on the 9th September. The day will consist of the Men’s and Ladies 1st teams having a game (1.30pm for the Men and 1.00 for the Ladies) followed at 3.00pm by short games for the ladies on pitch 1 and short games for the men on Pitch 2. The Ladies 1sts will be playing City Of Portsmouth on pitch 1 and the Men’s 1sts will be playing Yateley on pitch 2.

Please make every effort to turn up as it is the first chance of the captains to be able to see who is available and to start shaping their squads. Also if you have been unable to make any of the pre-season training then this will be the last opportunity to blow the cobwebs away before a full fixture list takes over!! The fixtures are available to view on the website.

All things being equal, on the day there will be a hockey stall for you to buy those all-important bits you forgot needed replacing, or just to treat yourself. The club will also be displaying its own branded hockey items including a new men’s shirt that it will be asking all male members of the top four men’s sides to purchase. This is very similar to the shirt currently worn by the Masters and Vets (don’t worry, you guys won’t have to purchase another one!) and will ensure that the whole men’s section is well presented (as of course the ladies are already!). The era of team shirts that everybody loses or fails to hand back is indeed over! Finally, there will also be a BBQ, which was very popular last year.

Any new players are welcome -- if you have any friends or family who may be interested in hockey then please bring them along!

If you are unable to make club day but will be available through the season then please let Tom Gee (Men’s Club Captain) know, [email protected], or Heidi Wells (Director of Hockey) on [email protected] .

Please visit the website closer the actual day to check whether there are any changes to these arrangements.

Junior Club Day (for 6 to 18 year olds) will be held on the 10th September at 9.30 until 12.00. If you (or your child in the case of parents who receive this message) are unable to register on this day but want to be involved in junior hockey then please email Mandy Jackson on [email protected] to advise.

Please bring along any friends or family who may have shown an interest, the more we can get involved in the club the better. The day is a good chance to see the club in a more relaxed atmosphere. Again please keep checking the website for details and log on to ‘your details’ to check that they are up to date!!!

Junior training starts properly on Sunday 17th September and will be on every Sunday throughout the season unless otherwise notified.

For any club this is very important. This year we are mainly focussing our attention to Juniors, (including further education). We are “freshening up” our recruitment poster and are looking to out it in all the local schools and colleges. If you have a close link to a school then please ensure on of our posters goes up and the PE teachers are on side, we need all the help we can get with this – we can’t recruit too much!!! To obtain a poster, please contact Jackie Appan via [email protected]
As regards adult recruitment we will get something pre-season into the Haslemere Herald and also plan to run some free advertising with Delta radio.

HHC Website

The new version of the site has just gone live and incorporates easier navigation for members, more impact for our sponsors and better reporting functionality to make life easier for captains etc! You will be circularised in due course with any information that you will need to take advantage of the new elements on the site. However, rest assured that the fundamentals remain the same!
Please can you all log on to the site and check that all your details are up to date, especially that your email address and mobile phone numbers are current!! If you have any problems, please e-mail the site administrator and he will help sort things out.

The website also contains all the club policies which we should all make ourselves familiar with, so when you log on give yourself a couple of minutes to familiarise yourself with them, especially the code of conduct and the disciplinary procedure!!!

This season, our disciplinary panel will be headed up by Jason Moore. Hopefully we will not be requiring his services!

Subscriptions and Match fees

2006/7 rates can be found on the website.

Please try and pay your subs promptly as the cash flow helps the clubs finances!! There are three ways that you can pay:

1) By cheque made payable to “Haslemere Hockey Club” and sent to David Jenkins, 19 Ryde Court, Newport Road, Aldershot, Hants, GU12 4LL.
2) By cheque made payable to “Haslemere Hockey Club” paid directly into Lloyds TSB Haslemere, using your name and “subs” as reference and email [email protected] advising date and amount of the payment.
3) By BACS payment to Lloyds TSB Haslemere. Sort Code: 30-93-94, account number: 00116545. Again using your name and “Subs” as the reference and email [email protected] to advise this is how you have paid, the date and the value.

Paying on time also makes it easier for your captains as it is one less thing that they have to worry about. If you have any worries or questions regarding your subs or match fees, then you can email David as above.

I hope you all enjoy what is remaining of the summer and have a good hockey season.
