Dir of Junior Hockey

Dear All,

Firstly, I hope you are enjoying the summer so far; here at Haslemere we have been busy preparing for the new season and look forward to seeing you back on the pitches soon. Please, if you have five minutes, take the time to read the important information below.

You will see that junior members have now been allocated to their squads for September (by their date of birth), training times and locations can be found here.

After a very successful junior season last year, we are looking to build on this with a focus on developing our hockey skills in a fun, safe environment. Our junior programme will hopefully engage and stretch all abilities, and provide a pathway towards more junior individual and team success, with progression to senior hockey the ultimate goal. We believe hockey is a sport for life and we are here to support our junior members on that journey. If you’ve never had a look through our website, it’s worth a read; more details on our strategy to hockey can be found here.

This summer we have applied to England Hockey to become part of the second cohort of Talent Centres; this application demonstrates our commitment to ensuring we are coaching hockey in a structured and safe manner. Fingers crossed we get some positive news in September! More details on England Hockey Talent Centres can be found here.

As previously mentioned, we are looking to stretch all our junior membership, but at any time not all players are at the same level, and indeed players progress at different rates and ages. Our stretch (called our Development Academy) programme will see some crossover between age groups for games / coaching where appropriate, extra sessions for those selected, and where possible (due to age), introduction to senior hockey.

Finally, to enhance the training structure of our junior sessions we have employed the services of hockey specialists 1-2-1 Coaching; who through a programme of ‘coach the coaches’ and a full season development plan will provide each age group with the tools they need to maximise the potential of our juniors. We hope to provide coaching sessions for all existing and aspiring coaches and further details will be sent out regarding session dates.

A huge amount of effort goes into each season, and couldn’t happen without a team of volunteers who all contribute to running the Club. The more people that can get involved, even with the smallest of tasks, can help lighten the burden on others. If you feel you can provide any time, whether that be administration or coaching; your assistance would be greatly appreciated. And if you think you need a hockey background, you most certainly don’t! If you have any interest in coaching, the Club will support you with any training needs.

See you on the pitch

Jules
