The summer has flown by (well the summer months, not necessarily the summer weather) and our thoughts need to return to hockey, so please find below some dates for the diary and some other useful information!
Fitness & Training Sessions
Fitness sessions have started, they are on a Monday evening at 8pm until 9.30 on ATP 1 (near the clubhouse). Please take up running gear as well as your hockey bits. The sessions are open to all club members and will be led by Grant Roberts.
Training sessions will be on a Wednesday evening at 8pm for both Men and Ladies. They are starting on 5th September 8.00 until 9.30 for the Men’s 1’s and 2’s and Ladies and on the 12th September for the development squad, indoors at The Edge, and continue throughout the season with a break for the Christmas Holidays.
Coaching : Once again George Harris will coach the Men’s 1st and 2nd squads and Duncan Haddrell will take the Ladies squad, and Dhiren Patel (DP) will continue with the development squad, this will consist of 16-25 year old men (with a few exceptions) not currently in the 1sts or 2nds.
We are also looking to interchange some of the sessions so the coaches will be working together to develop the club as a whole.
There are a team of coaches for our junior section who will all work closely together throughout the season providing first class sessions which are both fun and educational!!
The Adult Club Day (Men’s, Ladies and U18 teams) will be held on Saturday 8th September. The day will consist of the Men’s 1st team having a game at 1.30 against Aldershot and Farnham followed at 3.00pm by short games for the ladies on Pitch 1 and short games for the men on Pitch 2.
Please make every effort to turn up as it is the first chance the captains have to be able to see who is available and to start shaping their squads. Also if you have been unable to make any of the pre-season training then this will be the last opportunity to blow the cobwebs away before a full fixture list takes over!! The fixtures are all available to view on the website.
As usual there will be a BBQ running through the day -- this proved very popular last year. Phoenix Cards will also have a stall up, they are a company that produce a fantastic range of original and exclusive greetings cards as well as an unusual and high quality range of invitations, thank you cards, gift wrap, tags and stationery. It will be run by Emma who is a new recruit to the club and any proceeds from the day will go towards the England Hockey Breast Cancer campaign for which we are trying to raise £100. Therefore please bring some extra money along and show your support.
All new players are welcome -- if you have any friends or family who may be interested in hockey then please bring them along!
If you are unable to make club day but will be available through the season then please let Tom Gee (Director of Hockey) know, [email protected] , or Heide Evans (Ladies Club Captain), [email protected]
As always please visit the website to check fixtures, for any news, or any arrangement changes.
Junior Club Day will be held on the 9th September, 9.30-10.30 for U8 and U10’s and 10.30--12.00 for U12’s, U14’s and U16’s. If you (or your child in the case of parents who receive this message) are unable to make club day but would like to join the section then please email Mandy Jackson on [email protected] to advise.
Returning junior members should visit the website before club day to update their parental consent forms and then bring a print out of this on the day together with a cheque for the appropriate subscription (details below). Alternatively you can pay online or via mail in advance and advise David Jenkins (again details below). This will considerably speed up administration on the day. It is important that returning members subscribe by September 30 at the latest as the junior club has a waiting list and places will be offered to new players thereafter.
Do bring along any junior friends or family who may have shown an interest -- the more we can get involved in the club the better. The day is a good chance to see HHC in a more relaxed atmosphere.
Full junior training starts on Sunday 16th September at 9.30 and will be on every Sunday throughout the season unless otherwise notified. 9.30-10.30 is for all children up to and including U10’s and then 10.30-12.00 is for everyone else, (up to and including U16’s!). U18 boys and girls and U16 girls will train with the adult section of the club on a Wednesday evening. Again, please visit the website to check fixtures, for any news, or any arrangement changes.
A3 Sports will be at both club days with a full range of kit so remember your money!!!! This may be a time to dig out all your old kit to check you have everything you need for the start of the season. At the time of going to press their website was nearly complete to enable members to go online, place orders and make payment. Please support them by getting what you can from them as they are supporting the club with all their efforts, and sponsorship!!
Contact Details & Website Admin
Please can you all ensure that your contact details are up to date and correct on the website. The website is our contact database and any omissions/discrepancies will cause captains and other organisers great difficulties!! If you have any problems, please e-mail the site administrator and she will help sort things out.
The website also contains all the club policies which we should all make ourselves familiar with, so when you log on give yourself a couple of minutes to familiarise yourself with them, especially the code of conduct and the disciplinary procedure!!!
This season, our disciplinary panel will be headed up by Jason Moore. Hopefully we will not be requiring his services!

2. To be a member of the club (and be able to use the clubhouse and website), David must ultimately have received your payment by the 30th November 2007.
Please pay your subs promptly as the cash flow helps the club’s finances and avoids time being wasted by captains etc in chasing you!! There are three ways that you can pay:
1) By cheque made payable to “Haslemere Hockey Club†and sent to David Jenkins, 19 Ryde Court, Newport Road, Aldershot, Hants, GU12 4LL.
2) By cheque made payable to “Haslemere Hockey Club†paid directly into Lloyds TSB Haslemere, using your name and “subs†as reference and email David, [email protected] , advising the date and amount of the payment.
3) By BACS payment to Lloyds TSB Haslemere. Sort Code: 30-93-94, account number: 00116545. Again using your name and “Subs†as the reference and email David, [email protected] to advise this is how you have paid, the date and the value.
HHC welcomes everyone regardless of financial circumstances and allows for cases where a member requires payment terms that suit their current financial situation. Such situations will be considered on a case by case basis. A written communication to our Finance Director, David Jenkins, [email protected] must accompany a request for such consideration. Requests and fee payment terms are kept strictly confidential.
These are payable on the day you play and are to be paid by everybody. The match fees are as follows:
Adult Male £10
Adult Female £6
16-25 year olds £6
Under 16’s (playing senior hockey) £4
At the end of this season David Jenkins has announced that he will step down from the role of Finance and Administration Director. As most members know, he has served the board in both secretarial and financial capacities since the mid nineties and, not unreasonably, would henceforth like to just enjoy playing hockey!!!!
Now would be the opportunity for any volunteers willing to take on this important role to come forward and shadow him through this year. If you feel you could fill this important role and wish to give something back to your club then please email our Chairman, Geoff Ledger at [email protected] . Thank you in advance!!
Men’s Team Structure: For those of you not at the AGM you may be unaware that we have had to disband one of the men’s team due to lack of players / support. This means that the 3rds and 4ths have merged and the resulting team will now play in division 3, which is midway between where the two teams were originally placed. The 3rd team will still be used as a valuable development team, providing a stepping stone for juniors who are moving towards adult hockey.
ATP1: There is work currently being undertaken to this pitch which will be completed for you all to view on club day. Replacement floodlights are going up and an area, in front of The Edge, is being opened up for dugouts. There are no prizes for guessing which distinguished Hon Life Member has masterminded this project, one that will further enhance our fantastic facilities!
Clubmark: HHC has been working hard towards achieving the Clubmark standard. This is an award which shows everybody what we in fact already know – that our club is both very well organised and one of the safest places to play! Having just achieved the Bronze award, we are now very close to the Silver. From there, it will be a short step to full Clubmark status.
Juniors: Our coaches and managers have been busy over the summer with several qualifying as Level 1 coaches and Gavin Whitlock in the process of achieving level 2. In addition, ten members of the club have qualified as First Aiders.
I hope you all enjoy what is remaining of the summer and that the sun at least shines in September! Have a good hockey season.
