Monday 1st May 2006 will be remembered as the day the U18s brought the Hampshire Cup back to Haslemere Hockey Club after an eight-year interlude. Graced by our usual group of supporters and some well known faces from the club hierarchy on a beautiful day at Bournemouth, the U18s gave a display of their most skillful hockey. The players started the game with a hunger rarely seen and were 2-0 up within the first five minutes. The growing confidence and determination to win was palpable from the sidelines. Every player contributed to the successful outcome of the match. The 6-2 win against Southampton was just reward for such great teamwork and led to defeat of an opposition who had twice beaten Haslemere earlier in the season. A memorable end to a great season. Well done guys!

Those departing for university will take with them an enormous sense of achievement from the season – the winning of the county cup, quarter finals of the National Plate and defeat of three national club sides – an enviable record from a total squad of 14 players and one which a university team will be eager to include.

Good luck to the leavers, a warm welcome to those joining the existing cup winners in the U18 squad next season and more of the same please from the 17 year olds remaining in the squad. Enjoy a long deserved rest after the dedication and commitment you have shown to the Club.
