Michelle Fussell Director of HHC Welfare and First Aid Officer

Michelle Fussell

Got asked to join Haselmere as Welfare Officer and First Aid officer in April 2021 during Covid times. Her Passion for hockey started as a child with a Marine playing Hockey father whom she took after at age of 11 playing for school, leading to play at colleges, university teams then moved on to Club play for Reading, Bedford, Newbury, Guildford. Retiring from Hockey at 47 due to too much hockey and first hip replacement followed by the second on at age 51. If she could would be still playing today but has no push off for running or bending.

Despite being very dyslexic, and gaining four degrees her day job is Monday to Thursday as a accredited registered Counsellor / psychotherapist / play therapist working with children, young people and Adults, since 2000. Alongside being a Single Foster Parent for 12 years for 25 young people. Before this a church of England Youth Pastor for 13 years and a Children’s and Young people social worker for 3 years. Fridays she looks after a 95 year old and a 79 year old friends as their POA. With Saturdays with friends and family and Sundays at HHC, gardening and St Saviours church Guildford in the evenings. Life is always busy.

A passion for Welfare, led her to take on the role at Guildford for 17 years before being asked to come to Haselmere. Where in the past 3 seasons has now helped HHC grow from a handful of First Aiders to 52 in date certified First Aiders across the club. Bringing First Aid courses to the club for anyone who is attached to a team, in any way coach, umpire, Parent, supported to qualify as a First Aider. Michelle has also developed a Welfare team of three other amazing women deputy Welfare officers Nicola Denton and Suzie Jones, alongside Robyn Francis (DBS) who retires after 10 years of DBS’ing for HHC at the end of this season. (A role to be filled in 2025 is that you?) After setting HHC up and running with Welfare and First Aid Michelle is also looking to retire when she is 60 in 2026, could you step into Director of Welfare?
