England U16’s

Our very own Ellie Chester (1st Team Ladies Keeper) has been put forward for England U16s – she is one of only 5 in England – Well Done Ellie!

Whilst we at Haslemere are pleased to have Ellie on our team the credit should go to Alton Hockey Club and Pete Tynan (Alton’s Dir of Junior Coaching) who persuaded Ellie to take on Goalkeeping. It was also Pete who helped steer Ellie down the path to getting nominated for DC. (Development Centre)

Still only 14 (yes only 14!) Ellie is at school in Alton and started playing at 10, she only took up being a Goalkeeper when her U10 team (Alton) were short of one and she volunteered.

Regretfully she did not get selected in year one for the next stage – Academy Centre (AC).) however as her father so eloquently puts it this lit a fire under her and from that day it was Hockey Hockey Hockey.

The following year she was nominated for AC leading onto another selection for PC (Performance centre).

She attended the futures cup where players get finally assessed for NAGS (National Age Group Squad)  – AND again she excelled and got through to the next stage as England Hockey say “it is the highest honour available for a junior hockey player.”

However we do know now she has to have another go as poor Ellie was usurped by another.
