2022/23 Season Update

With the new season fast approaching please find below the current plans.

Firstly, for those of you who were not aware we have two new board members:

Chairman – Ben Proudlove (see intro)
Ben is currently making sure our plans are in place for the new season. He also has to deal with all the bureaucracy and he has taken on the job of getting our sponsorship programme going.

Adults

Mens

Training timings and locations remain as last year. Our first sessions start on week commencing the 4th September.
We are also focusing more on the older boys with a dedicated session on Wednesday evenings at the same time as the Mens 3s,4s &5s.
Rob Dilworth will continue to support our promising Juniors with the Mens 1s & 2s.

Ladies

Training timings and locations again remain as last year and the first sessions start on week commencing the 4th September.
Ladies 3s will now be absorbed into the Ladies 2s training sessions on Wednesday evenings.
Back to Hockey – Need a coach for this section to run – NO COACH NO SESSION

Juniors

Jules has been doing a great deal of work behind the scenes and it is important you read this update please follow this link.

Training timings and locations largely remain as 21/22 apart from:

GU14s will now train on Friday evenings at Bohunt school – 18:00-19:30
GU16s will now become part of the adult programme and (depending on ability) will either train with the Ladies 2s/3s (Weds) or with the Ladies 4s/5s (Tue). Players have already been allocated on teamo.

Development Academy

In line with our Talent Center application the Club is launching a Development Academy.

The academy is targeted at those children who show desire, drive and aptitude and is focused on the U14 and U12 age groups.

Coaches & Volunteers

A huge amount of effort goes into each season, and couldn’t happen without a team of volunteers who all contribute to running the Club. The more people that can get involved, even with the smallest of tasks, can help lighten the burden on others. If you feel you can provide any time, whether that be administration or coaching; your assistance would be greatly appreciated. And if you think you need a hockey background, you most certainly don’t! If you have any interest in coaching, the Club will support you with any training needs.

Adult Coach – we need a Back 2 Hockey coach desperately.

Junior Section Coaches:
Specifically for our Junior section we would love some coaches to help at training and on match days, no ability or knowledge necessary as it is more about the “how” than the “what“.

Each squad has a very experienced lead coach who will teach you the ropes.

In addition, to enhance the training structure of our junior sessions we have employed the services of hockey specialists 1-2-1 Coaching; who through a programme of ‘coach the coaches’ and a full season development plan will provide each age group with the tools they need to maximise the potential of our juniors. We hope to provide coaching sessions for all existing and aspiring coaches and further details will be sent out regarding session dates.

DofE:

We are aware that there are quite a few junior hockey players who are doing their DofE – why not use your volunteering time coaching please email me. (hockeytrainingfirst@gmail.com)
For those of you who “get the bug” we are very happy to fund England Hockey courses – these are online and very very worthwhile (as well as very motivational).

Umpires

Needless to say we also need umpires, both at adult and junior level. Once again we will fund courses and assist in post course umpiring with a view to providing you with the confidence to umpire with skill.
