Men's 1st XI
1Hamble 1XI - National Vase Cup
2Loss
Haslemere travelled to Hamble for the quarter final of the EH Vase. Haslemere went with high hopes after their impressive win in the league against Hamble earlier on in the season.
Haslemere started the game well and put the home side under lots of pressure creating good opportunities but just lacking that clinical touch. The home side were reduced to trying to catch Haslemere on the break and nearly scored but for good work by George Harris in goal. The first half was coming to a close and Haslemere still could not fin the break through. Then a smart pass out to Elliot Hall on the right saw Elliot skin 3 Hamble defenders and pull the ball back for Duncan Berry to put Haslemere ahead. Hamble had a chance to restart and the game and the whistle blew for half time.
The talk at half time was for Haslemere to carry on in the same vein as more goals would come if we kept creating the chances. Hamble started the second half well and put pressure on the Haslemere defence that was standing strong. Haslemere came back in to the game and had a short corner which did not go to plan. Hamble broke quickly and were 5on 2 at the back. The Hamble player rounded the Haslemere keeper and finished well in the roof of the net so 1-1 with 15 minutes left. Haslemere continued to dominate the game but could not find the goal scoring touch in front of goal. Chances came and went with Hamble trying to catch Haslemere on the break. With a minute to go Hamble won a short corner and converted via a deflection giving them a 2-1 lead. Haslemere could not find an equaliser and ended up going out of the cup. The Haslemere players were gutted as they played the better hockey but got nothing from the game. Good luck to Hamble in the next round.
Also thanks to all the supporters who cam down to cheer us on.
