Match Report

Men's Vets 4
Woking Pitts 1
Win

Haslemere Vets once again started this match camped in the Woking half for the opening fifteen minutes. The ball was being passed cleanly and there was plenty of space to move forward especially on the right hand side of the pitch, Paul Kirkham and Tony Richards combining well on the right. Perhaps this made Haslemere a little too confident as Woking made a rare break down the left hand side, beat the defender and crossed cleanly to the top of the D and Woking converted the shot unchallenged and took a 1 - 0 lead against the run of play. This seemed to upset Haslemere's rhythm a little bit and there followed few chances in front of goal until Ali Chauhan took the ball out of defence, down the middle of the pitch passing cleanly to Philip Wright who brought the scores level with a crisp shot beyond the Woking keeper's reach.

The half time talk was all about using the width of the pitch and getting players into the Woking D, and once again Mike Milne-Holme and Ali Chauhan showed how this should be done, pressurising the Woking defence and eventually setting up Ian Lynch who's shot clear of the keeper gave Haslemere a 2 - 1 lead. As in the first half Haslemere spent much of the time in the Woking half and it wasn't long before Simon 'Lycra' Prichard added a third goal from the left, and Philip Wright added a second to make it 4 - 1. Woking did break back and scrambled a second goal, but Haslemere's confidence remained high, although additional chances could not be converted into more goals. A welcome return to winning form!
