Match Report

Men's 1st XI 2
Trojans 2nd 2
Draw

This week Haslemere travelled to Trojans looking to kick back into gear after last weeks impressive comeback against promotion rivals Basingstoke.

The game started well for Haslemere with players finding time and space with ease, particularly down the right side with Maguire feeding the increasingly impressive Richie Strong.

The home side were struggling to cope with their lack of possession and resorted to just getting the ball out of their half by any means possible. When the ball made it clear of the half way line, the hugely improved Dilworth would just eat it up like a young vinnie jones on red bull. This allowed the blues to create attacks from good positions, forcing the home keeper into some impressive saves, keeping his side in the game.

The first goal for Haslemere came from a great team move. Dilworth wining the ball around the halfway, moving out the channel to Roberts who in turn fed Nick Gay in space. He unselfishly laid it off to the hard working Jackie Dimond who coolly slotted home. One nil, the least Haslemere deserved.

The home team, feeling the pressure, conceded short corner after short corner, but fortunately for them the blues corner team couldn’t take their chances and the game went into the break at 0-1.

The next goal was going to be all important, and both teams knew it. Haslemere came out the strongest and more eager after the break, looking to double their lead as early as possible. And it wasn’t long before another slick move enabled Nick Gay to score his 3rd in three games.

Almost immediately after doubling their lead, Haslemere’s commanding position seemed to evade them for the remaining part of the game. The home side took advantage of this and scored two goals late on to clinch a draw. What a huge disappointment for the blues, who at times were strolling through the game, now finding themselves drawing against a team well below there ability. Three points definitely lost here. Points to note were some good performances from Richie Strong, Kevin Maguire and Ali Herson.

Next week Haslemere take on the league leaders Hamble with no less than a win necessary to keep themselves in the promotion hunt.

Congratulations must go to Ali Herson who over the weekend secured his place in the Hampshire U17 county side – Good work sir!
