--The summer has flown by (well the summer months, not necessarily the summer weather) and our thoughts need to return to hockey, so in this letter please find some dates for the diary and some other useful information!
Fitness & Training Sessions
training started for both men and women (mixed) on Monday 11th August 8pm-9.30pm on pitch 1. The training is being delivered by a dedicated fitness coach.
Ladies start Wednesday 3rd September at 8pm – 9.30pm on ATP 1. Men’s 1’s and 2’s start Wednesday 3rd September at 8pm - 10pm on ATP 2 and the development squad, indoors at The Edge on the 10th September 8pm – 9.30pm, and continues throughout the season with a break for the Christmas Holidays.
Gavin Whitlock and Steve Greene will coach the Men’s 1’s and 2’s squad and other highly fit male hockey athletes! who are not in the indoor development squad. We have 2 new coaches for the Ladies, Bill Ashworth and Mike South. Dhiren Patel (DP) will continue with the development squad, this will typically consist of 16- 20 year old males (with a few exceptions) not currently in the 1’s or 2’s.
We will be interchanging some of the sessions so the coaches will be working together to develop the club as a whole. So don’t get too comfortable if you are training indoors each week!
There are a team of over twenty coaches supported by eight trainees in our junior section working closely together throughout the season to provide first class sessions which are both fun and educational!
Adult Club Day (Men’s, Ladies and U18s, U16 girl’s teams)
will be held on Saturday 13th September. Why not come along and watch the men’s Hampshire Open Cup Final - Haslemere 2’s against Fareham 2’s, 1pm start on Pitch 1. Or if you fancy a game of mixed hockey on pitch 2 we will be arranging a game from about 2 o’clock, just turn up, teams will be selected on the day.
Please make every effort to turn up as it is the first chance the captains have to be able to see who is available and to start shaping their squads. Also if you have been unable to make any of the pre-season training then this will be the last opportunity to blow the cobwebs away before a full fixture list takes over!! The fixtures are all available to view on the website.
As usual there will be a BBQ running throughout the day and the pavilion bar will be open!
All new players are welcome -- if you have any friends or family who may be interested in hockey then please bring them along!
If you are unable to make club day but will be available through the season then please e-mail Heide Evans (Director of Hockey), firstname.lastname@example.org, Or Jason Moore (Men’s Club Captain), email@example.com.
As always please visit the website to check fixtures, for any news, or any arrangement changes.
Junior Club Day
will be held on Sunday 7th September, 9.30-10.30 for U6, U8 and U10’s and 10.30--12.00 for U12’s, U14’s and U16 boys. If you (or your child in the case of parents who receive this message) are unable to make club day but would like to continue as a member then please email Peter Hall on firstname.lastname@example.org to advise. It would also be helpful to let Peter know if you are not returning to us in September as we wish to offer places to new members as soon as possible.
Returning junior members must visit the website before club day to re-validate their parental consent forms and bring a print out of this form on the day. Unfortunately you/your child will be unable to train with us until we receive a re-validated parental consent form due to child protection policies so please remember to bring the form.
Remember to bring your mouth guard and shin pads to wear during training and matches. These are essential items for all U18 players whether playing in junior or adult sessions.
Your subscription (details below) can either be paid online or via post in advance or on Club Day. Payment in advance will considerably speed up administration at the start of the season and secure your place. It is important that returning members subscribe before September 30, as the junior club often has a waiting list and your place will be offered to new players thereafter.
Do bring along any junior friends or family who are interested in joining the more we can get involved in the club the better. The day is a good chance to see HHC in a more relaxed atmosphere.
Full junior training starts on Sunday 14th September at 9.00 or 9.30 and will be on every Sunday throughout the season unless otherwise notified. 9.30-10.30 is for the U6s, 9.00 – 10.30 for all U8s & U10s and then 10.30 -12.00 is for everyone else, (up to and including U16 boys). U18 boys and girls and U16 girls will train with the adult section of the club on a Wednesday evening. Again, please visit the website to check fixtures, for any news, or any arrangement changes.
The season heralds new playing shirts for Men & Ladies, girls and boys. The Ladies/girls have also moved over to Navy Blue socks with white hoops, the shirts are now a mirror image of the Men’s/boys, reflecting the final stage in fully integrating the two clubs. We have also simplified the number of styles available to our junior players, reduced the delivery time and found a cheaper shirt for our youngest junior players. All with the help of our sponsor, A3 Sports. Details of the new kit will be on the A3 website shortly. However, you are welcome to visit the A3 Sports shop in Liphook now and place your order. A3 Sports will allocate a club number to each shirt. We are no longer offering the option of adding a name to the shirt to reduce delivery times and protect the identification of junior players.
Adult shirts are priced at £25. (Also applicable to U16 & U18 junior players). Junior shirts (U6-U14 players) will cost £12.
We encourage our adult players and U16/U18 juniors to purchase a new playing shirt for the start of the season, if you have not already done so.
We also encourage our junior players (from U12 upwards) to purchase a club shirt for matches and training, However those boys with an existing club shirt can continue to wear last season’s shirts for matches and training until they grow out of them as the new shirts are similar. Those U12/U14 girls with an existing club shirt can continue to wear this for training until it needs replacing as the club has purchased a set of U12/U14 junior girls shirts for matches as an interim measure this season. Purchase of shirts for mini players (U6/U8/U10) in entirely optional.
A3 Sports will be at both club days with a full range of kit so remember your money!!!! This may be a time to dig out all your old kit to check you have everything you need for the start of the season. Do call into A3 Sports in the centre of Liphook to replace your tired and worn out sticks, mouth guards, shin pads etc. Please support A3 Sports by getting what you can from them as they are supporting the club with all their efforts, and sponsorship!!
Contact Details & Website Admin
Please can you all ensure that your contact details are up to date and correct on the website (select Edit My Details within the Members or Juniors area). The website is our contact database and any omissions/discrepancies will cause captains/managers great difficulties in getting hold of you! If you have any problems, please e-mail the site administrator through the Contact Us section of the website and she will help sort things out.
The website also contains all the club policies which we should all make ourselves familiar with, so when you log on give yourself a couple of minutes to familiarise yourself with them, especially the code of conduct and the disciplinary procedure!!!

Men’s Team Structure and League restructuring:
Men’s 1s compete in the Hampshire 1st XI division 1
Men’s 2s compete in the Hampshire Open League division 1
Men’s 3s – promoted to Hampshire Open League division 2
Men’s Masters – promoted to Wessex Masters division 2
Men’s Vets as per normal.
This is an extremely important season for the top 3 sides as the South league is being restructured for the 2008/09 season. Ideally all 3 sides need to finish in the top 4.
ATP1: There is work currently planned for early September to improve the safety of our loyal fans and our children/young people. A fenced area similar to that of ATP2 is being implemented.
Clubmark: HHC was awarded a silver Clubmark accreditation last season. This is an award which shows everybody what we in fact already know – that our club is both very well organised and one of the safest places to play! It remains a short step to full Clubmark status.
Qualifications: Our coaches and managers have been busy over the summer with three more coaches gaining Level 1 certificates and several attending specialist coaching workshops. In addition a further ten members of the club have qualified as First Aiders.
I hope you all enjoy what is remaining of the summer and that the sun at least shines in September! Have a good hockey season.
Jacqui Clayton, Communications Director, HHC
